Home Tube Amps About

Horn Speakers

Lyrita’s tube amplifiers are all low powered amps. For them to perform to their potential, high sensitivity speakers, with sensitivity above 94 dB/watt, are required to complete the system.

Horns are the best choice to achieve this sensitivity. Tubes and horns work very well together, bringing music alive.

There are additional reasons for using horns:

- their high sensitivity allows for small, very linear movement of the cone, giving much lower distortion that other loudspeaker systems.

-  the low mass cones used help reproduce the full dynamics of music.

- larger drivers reproduce the midbass impact and richness inherent in music.

- large horn systems give the sense of scale recorded in large music ensembles.

Lyrita’s horn speakers are designed to fit into the home. The drivers are borrowed from professional audio, for their high sensitivities. Unique is the compression driver which has to be mated with a horn.

The largest speakers with custom wood horns have been discontinued. Primarily because of the difficulty of manufacture, and high cost. They need large rooms to work in, which is difficult in most homes.
